Insider’s Guide to Experiencing The Biltmore

An extraordinary sight awaits visitors in Asheville at The Biltmore, a stunning landmark built over one hundred years ago. You can scratch this one off your bucket list with a historic Western North Carolina getaway to see what makes this house so special with our “Insider’s Guide to The Biltmore.”

The historic Biltmore Estate in Asheville

About The Biltmore

The Biltmore estate is the largest private home ever built in America and was commissioned by George Washington Vanderbilt II in 1889 and finished in 1895. It is a stunning example of Gilded Age architecture with trees, expansive lawns, and luscious gardens all around the property. A true testament to the opulence of the era, it is now a historical landmark and museum, welcoming all within its walls that once housed only the wealthiest members of society. Though it is considered a mansion, its incredible size and grandiosity are more reminiscent of a castle with a great tower in the center and others overlooking the surrounding area in all directions. Step into the past and experience an incredible opportunity that is worth visiting at least once in your life.

Sights You Don’t Want to Miss

An exclusive event being held at The Biltmore until March 22nd, 2022, the Van Gogh Alive exhibit takes the works of the famous painter and creates a multi-sensory spectacle with new ways to appreciate his timeless works of art. This is part of a new series being held at Biltmore until 2023 with exhibits on Monet and Leonardo da Vinci upcoming in the new year and beyond. In addition to The Biltmore, other exciting activities await like the Blue Ridge Parkway, a gorgeous drive through the Appalachians with absolutely stunning views and varied vistas. There is an entrance near The Biltmore and we highly recommend taking a drive and experiencing a true natural wonder from the comfort of your car. To spot some beautiful waterfalls, visit nearby DuPont State Recreational Forest for a scenic hike, or stroll around the North Carolina Arboretum to take in some more of the area’s natural beauty.
